3 Types Of Tests Conducted in Weighing Scale Calibration
Just like any other measuring instrument, weighing scales also need to be calibrated regularly in order to ensure they give accurate readings. Over time, for various reasons, the accuracy of balances and scales becomes less reliable. A proper weighing scale balance calibration service is the only way to know how accurate your weighing instruments are. Ignoring this important activity can turn measurement into guesswork.
Here are 3 types of tests conducted in weighing scale calibration:
1. Eccentricity Test (Corner Load Test)
The eccentricity test determines whether the scale gives the same reading regardless of where the weight is placed on the weighing pan. A known test weight is placed at the center and then at each corner of the pan, and the readings are compared. If there is significant variation, it indicates a mechanical issue with the scale that needs to be addressed before it can be considered accurate.
2. Repeatability Test
The repeatability test assesses whether the scale can produce consistent readings when the same weight is placed on and removed from the pan multiple times under the same conditions. This test is performed by loading and unloading a reference weight several times and recording each reading. The variation between readings indicates the scale's precision and reliability.
3. Linearity Test (Accuracy Test)
The linearity test checks the accuracy of the scale across its full measurement range. Known reference weights are placed on the scale at various points throughout its capacity — for example, at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the maximum load. The readings at each point are compared to the known weight values to identify any deviations, ensuring the scale is accurate across its entire operating range.
